Welcome to the Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories
Laboratory medicine is at the heart of every accurate diagnosis
and comprehensive treatment plan. That's why we take it so seriously
at Rush North Shore.
Our pathologists (medical doctors who specialize in laboratory
medicine) direct the Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories. We are the people behind the scenes who are responsible
for the sophisticated laboratory tests that help diagnose and
treat diseases.
At Rush North Shore, we ensure the quality and accuracy of thousands
of test results each year. In addition, we oversee the laboratory
professionals, medical technologists, and phlebotomists (people
who draw blood) who also help perform these procedures.
Our staff performs many of the tests and procedures that your
doctors order, including:
- Strep screens, urine cultures, and other microbiology
tests for a variety of conditions
- Blood testing for cholesterol, cancer, diabetes, and other
diseases
- Tissue biopsies to test for cancer
- Blood transfusions
As part of our commitment to the community, our staff also provides
screening tests for cholesterol, prostate cancer, diabetes,
and other conditions at health fairs held throughout the year.
We are as interested in helping prevent disease as we are in
treating it.
Like other departments at Rush North Shore, the Department of
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is dedicated to training the
next generation of medical professionals. In partnership with
Oakton College, the department acts as
a clinical laboratory site where future medical laboratory technicians
are trained.
If you have any questions about our services, please call the
Department of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories at 847/933-6600.
